How was your day ?
A simple Question. A thousand untold stories.
How was your day?"
Such a simple question.
Four ordinary words.
Yet sometimes, they carry the weight of an entire day.
Whenever someone asks me this, I pause.
Not because I don't know the answer.
But because I don't know where to begin.
Do I tell them about the little joys that quietly held me together?
The cup of tea that tasted just right.
The painting that finally began to make sense.
The unexpected smile that stayed with me.
Or do I tell them about the work that quietly drained every ounce of my energy?
The conversations I kept replaying.
The expectations I couldn't meet.
The moments I questioned myself.
The truth is...
I have so much to say.
A whole day's worth of stories.
The victories no one noticed.
The exhaustion I quietly carried.
The thoughts that never found a voice.
But then I wonder...
Do they really have the time to listen?
Most people only have time for the short answer.
So I smile...
and simply say,
"It was fine."
Every day leaves behind little stories.
Some become memories.
Some become lessons.
Some drift away like passing clouds.
And some stay with us long after the day has ended.
Maybe that is why "How was your day?" is never really a small question.
It is an invitation.
An invitation to be seen.
To be heard.
To tell someone,
"This is what today felt like."
Perhaps what we all need isn't someone to fix our day.
Just someone willing to stay a little longer...
and listen to the answer beyond,
"I'm fine."
P.S.
If you've read this far...
I'd genuinely love to ask you the same question.
How was your day?
Not the automatic "I'm good" version.
The real one.
The little joys.
The quiet disappointments.
The wins no one noticed.
The thoughts you've been carrying.
I'm here to listen. Leave your answer in the comments. ๐ค
I write what I feel. If these words found a place in your heart, share this piece and stay for more heartfelt reflections. ๐ค
